Dragon Sigma Designs is owned and operated by Kate Diamond, a junior at Ramsey High School in Ramsey, New Jersey. Kate is an active member of the American Association of Wood Turners (AAW) and the Hudson Valley Wood Turners (HVWT). In 2007 Kate was inspired by a pen turning demonstration at The Woodworking Show in Somerset, NJ. Later that year she received a lathe for her birthday and a passion was born. In February, 2011, she gave a pen turning demonstration on the HVWT stand at the very show that inspired her!

Inspiring others is important to Kate. She is currently developing a program to introduce Girl Scouts to lathe work. The program will include shop safety and basic turning instruction as well as a hands-on component.

Giving back is important as well. $5 from the sale of all "Pieces" (random striped segmented acrylic), "Collegiate" (striped in college colors), "Insignia" (diagonal band under the clip), "Flag" and "Corporate" pens will be donated to the Children's Tumor Foundation (CTF). CTF is a non-profit foundation dedicated to improving the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by neurofibromatosis (NF). NF encompasses a set of distinct genetic disorders that cause tumors to grow along various types of nerves. NF can also affect the development of non-nervous tissues such as bones and skin. Kate was born with NF1.
